Dr. Wendong ZhangWendong Zhang, assistant professor, made a presentation at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Center in Sioux City April 15, 2019, that was covered by KTIV, Sioux City.

Zhang spoke on the ongoing trade negotiations between the China and the U.S. and the impact the trade war has had on Iowa’s ag future. He said this topic is important because China is one of the major trading partners with the United States for agriculture.

“We’re at a critical juncture. We essentially have witnessed the largest trade war in human history and voted on in the last year,” said Zhang.

Zhang was also quoted in an April 16 Ag Fax article on farmland values:

"The current land market defies economic logic a little bit," said Wendong Zhang, an economist who runs the Iowa State University Farmland Value Survey. "Growing farm financial stress is starting to force lenders to encourage farmers to sell land. As that happens more, supply may increase and prices may be affected. Another reason more land could come on the market is the age of farmers. In Iowa, for instance, more than 60 percent of land is owned by a farmer older than 65.”

This topic was also covered by an April 21 Sioux City Journal article, "Mixed bag for farmland values in Northwest Iowa."
