U.S. could lose $231B over 10 years if both ASF, FMD break

Professor Dermot Hayes was interviewed by Beef Magazine for the article "U.S. could lose $231B over 10 years if both ASF, FMD break," which focuses on potential losses in the US pork and beef sectors from African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks. Hayes told Beef that "Exports would be lost and some of the product that might have gone to China would be rendered, making it very useless or losing a lot of value. But a lot of the muscle meat would end up on the domestic market, flooding U.S. pork retail consumers to try and get them to compensate, to consume 25% or 30% more pork and that takes a huge drop in prices."
