Transitioning CALS from Blackboard to Canvas

Message to CALS Faculty and staff on behalf of Todd Vens:

Transitioning CALS from Blackboard to Canvas

Key Points

  • Most courses will still use Blackboard this fall
  • A select group of early adopters will use Canvas this fall
  • All spring 2018 courses must use Canvas
  • Access to Blackboard for most users will end December 22

The Transition Process

  • Fall 2017 early adopters - I have already been in touch with the CALS Online Learning early adopters with XW sections
  • Spring 2018 online courses - I will be reaching out to you very soon if you are teaching a spring 2018 CALS Online Learning course with an XW section
  • All other online courses - for all other CALS Online Learning courses with an XW section, I will contact you after the fall semester has begun
  • Courses affiliated with CALS that DO NOT have an XW section can receive support for the move to Canvas, with a few caveats:
    • Because the Brenton Center gives first-line support to CALS Online Learning courses with XW sections, staff may not be available to assist with courses that will utilize Canvas and are NOT taught for online distance delivery
    • The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching will have additional temporary staff to help faculty re-build courses in Canvas for on-campus delivery
