David SwensonDavid Swenson, associate scientist, was quoted in a July 26th Cedar Rapids Gazette story fact checking the number of Iowans who would benefit from Cory Booker's proposed renters' tax credit plan.

Swenson would have liked to see Columbia report its margin of error with the analysis. Overall, Swenson said his gripes are academic, and Columbia, a private Ivy League research university, is a credible source for an analysis of this type.

“Those folks are good, and there is no reason to doubt their methods,” he said.

Interviewed by Tyler Jett, Des Moines Register, two stories:

  • In light of the governor announcing that there were 80,000 job openings in the state, commented on how to put that information into context given the number of unemployed Iowans and the kinds of occupations that unemployed Iowans were seeking.
  • On whether employers in lower-skill-demanding service occupations were struggling to find help due to the very low unemployment rate.
