Students win at NACTA conference

NACTA 2018Callen Duffy, Kendall Davis, Grant Johnson, Connor Bollum, and Marta Grant attended the 2018 NACTA Judging conference to represent Iowa State University, the Department of Economics, and the Agricultural Business Club as professionals in the Agribusiness Contest.

Hundreds of students from numerous universities and institutions attended the 2018 NACTA Judging Conference at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska to compete against each other and test their knowledge in agricultural, environmental, natural, and life sciences. The Agribusiness Contest consists of two parts. Part I is a 150-point, broad-based, individual knowledge exam. Part II included a presentation, where each team was given a farm business scenario. Teams were required to give an overview of the business, perform a financial analysis on the current conditions of the business, and give recommendations as to how the business could expand in the future.

Dr. Georgeanne ArtzIowa State University placed third overall in the senior college division of the Agribusiness Contest. Callen Duffy received the top overall individual knowledge exam score. The team received first place in the knowledge exam component of the contest.

The team was coached by Georgeanne Artz, assistant professor of economics.
