Title: Distribution Intern

Describe your internship responsibilities: I worked on two major projects: a new distribution network design for Germany, and an innovations project that involved implementing IoT technology onto our iconic red returnable boxes that we ship to customers. I also analyzed carrier data, ocean freight bids, and assisted with a tender that was released in Italy. Additionally, I had a few tasks related to the United States market.
What did you enjoy most about this internship?
I enjoyed most the new culture I was able to experience in the Netherlands and the projects that I was assigned to because they were challenging but made a direct difference throughout the company. At Kramp is very much a family atmosphere, and I could tell my management truly cared about my development. Being able to experience agriculture on an international scale was something I believe everyone should have the opportunity to have.
How has this experience impacted your future career plans?
I have decided to accept a full time offer from Kramp as an International Management Trainee. Beginning January 15th, 2018 I will be moving to the Netherlands to work in our world headquarters, but also traveling to our other offices in Europe to build my network of colleagues and work on assorted projects. Eventually, I will be assisting with a startup branch in the United States.
What resources did you utilize to obtain this internship?
I utilized the CALS Career Services and my personal network to obtain this internship - it really is all about who you know!
What advice would you offer to other students seeking similar internships?
Some people would say that things happen because you were “at the right place, at the right time.” In a sense, this is true. But I believe that you must first open your own doors and not be afraid to walk through them with a blindfold on to get to this “right place”. If you are looking for a similar internship, do the things and talk to the people necessary first to build your own credibility, and then have the confidence in yourself to go after the things you want the most, even if they are in the unknown.
