I grew up on a family farm in Decorah, Iowa where we grow corn and soybeans and independently raise hogs. With three of my four older siblings having graduated from Iowa State, I quickly became aware at a young age of all of the opportunities the university can offer.

Since Iowa State has a variety of clubs to choose from, narrowing things down was a bit challenging. I am currently involved in the Agricultural Business Club, Agricultural Marketing and Management Organization and Economics Club. These organizations have given myself and others the opportunity to gain leadership experience and reach outside our comfort zones. Through these clubs, I have made friends, traveled across the country, and learned how to better interact with business professionals at large and small scale companies.

All of these experiences helped prepare me for interviews and networking with possible future employers. The summer after my freshman year I interned at Dow AgroSciences, and this coming summer I will be interning at John Deere Financial. I find it rewarding when I can apply lessons I’d learned in class and from various club leadership roles in the workplace to help me excel. I’m glad I chose my adventure at Iowa State because it has opened many new doors for me and helped me find the right group of people to surround myself with. I am truly confident in my future thanks to these people and my various experiences and opportunities at ISU.
