My position is very similar to being a small farmer, I work with corn and soybean seed year around. Going from commercial seed sales to crop research has given me a whole new appreciation for what goes into every hybrid or variety.
My advice for students looking for work in a similar position? Be open to new and different opportunities, be willing to move into a new area for a couple years. Careers in ag are always advancing, get started somewhere and you can always move back and hopefully move up in the company that you’re with and/or be able to relocate to your desired location.
