For Adelai Swanson, being Ag Bus Club president is a family tradition! There was never any other major for the former president of the Agricultural Business Club to consider. Just ask her dad Stuart, who led the club 26 years before she did. Adelai and her dad Stuart (’90 Ag Business) were recently featured in Alumni Association's STORIES magazine.

2016 Family of the Year

And in 2016, her family was named the 2016 ISU Family of the Year. The Ronald ('61 Farm Operations) and Florine Swanson ('64 Home Economics) family from Galt, IA, was selected as Iowa State University’s 2016 Family of the Year and was recognized during Family Weekend Oct. 14-16 on campus. The Swanson family considers Iowa State their “home away from home.”

The family was nominated by Adelai,  a third-generation Cyclone who is one of 19 Swanson family members who have attended, currently attend, or have applied for admission to attend ISU. Adelai’s grandparents, Ronald and Florine met at the Iowa State Fair and grew their relationship while they attended Iowa State. Because they went on to operate a farm just 45 minutes from Ames, the family’s ties to Iowa State remained and grew stronger over five decades.

“The family is eternally grateful for Iowa State, especially the grandchildren,” Adelai wrote, “because all three sons met their wives at ISU and have raised their children to be Cyclones!”
