If this fall is the first time you will be enrolled full time as a college student, you are considered a freshmen even if you took college credits in high school. Ag Business Club Scholarship for Incoming Freshmen
Amount: $100-250
Funds for these awards come primarily from company contributions to support various student fundraising activities in the department.
Selection Criteria:
Required: Incoming freshman Ag Business major. Academic record (high school rank, most recent ACT or SAT score, high school GPA), demonstrated and potential leadership abilities, extracurricular activity record, and personal statement explaining choice of major and need for funds.
Arthur (I.W.) Memorial
Amount: $750.00
Ira W. "Duke" Arthur graduated from Ames High School in 1912. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1916 having focused his studies in animal husbandry. He served our country as a World War I flier. After the war, he obtained an M.S. degree in Ag Econ from Iowa State in 1927 and a Ph.D. degree in Ag Econ from the University of Minnesota in 1939. He became a full professor at Iowa State in 1959 and spent his professional career focusing mainly on extension and teaching activities related to farm management, social security, livestock marketing, and rural human capital. This scholarship is funded by endowed funds provided by the widow of Mr. Arthur.

Required: Freshmen either currently or the previous fall semester. Ag Bus or Econ major with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Leadership record and potential. Financial need.
Beneke (Raymond R.) Freshman Ag Business
Amount: $3000.00
Raymond R. Beneke (1919-2005) was born on the family farm near Laurens, in rural Pocahontas County, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State College in 1940. After teaching high school and serving in the U.S. Army, Beneke undertook graduate studies in agricultural economics at Iowa State in 1945. He continued his graduate work at the University of Minnesota where he received a Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1949. Dr. Beneke joined the Department of Economics in 1948 and served on the faculty of Iowa State University for more than 40 years. He served as the Economics Department's Chair from 1973 until 1984, and became a professor emeritus in 1992. In the early years of Dr. Beneke's career, he provided leadership in the development of the Economics Department's agricultural business program. In 1968, he received the Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award from the American Agricultural Economics Association (AAEA). He received a faculty citation from the ISU Alumni Association in 1975. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the AAEA from 1985 until 1996 and was named a Fellow in 1996. Dr. Beneke was a strong supporter of international programs, especially poverty relief programs. Dr. Beneke had summer assignments in Peru and Mexico in the 1960s and in Peru and Zambia during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Professor Beneke also put a premium on excellence in teaching and advising students. He played an influential role in the professional lives of many students.

Doak (Paul)

Paul Doak was a faculty member in the ISU Economics Department from 1962-1992. The emphasis of his professional career at ISU was on teaching and advising students in the Ag Business major. He advised the Ag Business Club and taught courses in Ag Marketing, Agribusiness Operations, and Career Seminar. One of those students Dr. Doak taught and advised was Josanne Six. She is offering this scholarship to honor Dr. Doak who was instrumental in her success as an ISU Ag Business student. She graduated in 1990.

Ed Juhl is a 1984 graduate of ISU’s Ag Business program. He currently farms near Hudson, IA. Mr. Juhl is funding this scholarship in appreciation for the education he received in the Ag Business program at ISU.
Landus Cooperative Scholarship for Freshmen in Agricultural Business
Amount: $1,000.00
Funds for these awards are provided by the company of the same name. Recipients will be required to attend a Landus banquet in the fall.
Selection Criteria:
Required: Incoming freshmen Ag Business major. High school grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or have graduated in the top 25% of their high school class, and demonstrated leadership in agriculture through involvement in agricultural organizations (e.g., agricultural education/vocational agriculture, 4-H, FFA, etc). Attendance at Landus Scholarship Recognition dinner during the fall semester.
Preferred: 1) student with an expressed career interest in grain marketing, commodity merchandising, agronomics, elevator management, or grain market analysis as determined by the awarding authority. 2) student with a documented interest in finding employment in a predominantly rural area.
Wenstrand/Pride of Farm
Amount: $500.00
Tom Wenstrand is a graduate of the Agricultural Business program at ISU. His Iowa State economic course work continues to serve him well in business. He is funding this scholarship to support Agricultural Business students in gratitude for the dedication and academic grounding he received.
