Herman Quirmbach, associate professor, was quoted in a story by Ryan Matheny of KMAland.com on legislation approved April 4, 2018, by the Iowa Senate legalizing the growing and cultivation of industrial hemp in the state.
The Senate approved Senate File 2398, titled the "Iowa Industrial Hemp Act," on a 49-0 vote, sending the measure to the House.
"We need to develop new agricultural products and new agricultural markets," said Quirmbach. "We're all aware that farm income is down and that the days of $7 corn have long since disappeared. The recent developments in international trade policy only serve to reinforce my view on this."
Quirmbach was also quoted in a Des Moines Register story about the legislation.
