Plastina and Zhang awarded Leopold Center grant

Dr. Alejandro Plastina, Dr. Wendong ZhangAlejandro Plastina and Wendong Zhang, assistant professors, have been awarded a one-year grant from the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture for their project, "Who will own Iowa's farmland? A comparative study of farmland owners, tenure, and succession in Iowa."

As part of the Iowa Farmland Ownership and Tenure Survey, the project will allow the researchers to develop sections of the survey to understand operating and non-operating landowners' current land ownership structure, tenant selection, leasing relationships and more.

The Leopold Center has awarded grants for 21 new research and demonstration projects. The grants will aid in the advancement of sustainable agriculture while protecting Iowa’s soil and water and help Iowa citizens increase the availability of locally grown food.
