Keri JacobsKeri Jacobs, assistant professor, delivered a keynote presentation, “Consolidation and Competition in Midwest Agriculture: Are these Game-Changers?” at the University of Minnesota’s Crop Pest Management Short Course on Dec. 12, 2017. The presentation highlighted drivers of consolidation in ag locally and discussed impacts on producers and the retailers.

Heady Hall will be considered locked but occupied during the period Dec. 25, 2017-Jan. 1, 2018. You will be able to enter the building with your access card. There will be no mail service during this time. There will also be no custodial or vending service, and vendors will not deliver packages. There should be a reduction in heat in the building, however in the past this has not been significant.

Zachary ZwiefelEconomics junior Zachary Zwiefel has had his paper “The Propagation of Macroeconomic Shocks” accepted for presentation in the undergraduate paper sessions at the Midwest Economics Association meeting at the Hilton Orrington, March 23-25, 2017, in Evanston, Illinois. His paper will be entered in the MEA competition of undergraduate papers.

Santiago AcerenzaGrad student Santiago Acerenza recently published the paper, "Household Education Spending in Latin America and the Caribbean: Evidence from Income and Expenditure Surveys" with Nestor Gandelman. The paper appears in the journal Education, Finance, and Policy.

Dr. Lowell Catlett, a nationally known futurist, painted a picture of how today’s cutting-edge technology will change the way we live and farm in the not too distant future.

Dr. Dermot HayesDermot Hayes, professor, was interviewed on WNAX Nov. 30, for a story on China's new E10 mandate.

Hayes said China recently reduced their corn stocks and announced the E10 directive. As a result China will either need to import corn to produce that ethanol or just import the biofuel.

Peter Orazem, Patti CotterThe formerly bare walls of the seminar room 368A Heady Hall are now home to 14 art pieces belonging to Peter Orazem, university professor, and his wife, Patti Cotter.

Orazem credits his mother for igniting his love of art when he was a boy. On their visits to museums, he fantasized about owning original paintings of his own one day.

Ebby LuvagaEbby Luvaga, senior lecturer, accompanied by Dr. Theressa Cooper, Assistant Dean for Diversity in CALS, traveled to Nigeria during Thanksgiving break where they reunited with the Cochran Fellows that they hosted this past September. They were invited to participate in the 4th Annual Agra Innovate conference in Lagos, Nigeria.
