Dr. John WintersJohn Winters, associate professor, was interviewed for a Times Republican story July 30 about why the cost of gasoline in Marshalltown is consistently high compared to other Iowa cities.

He said it is common for gas stations in small- to medium-sized cities, like Marshalltown, not to compete aggressively.

She has been an ISD cost center manager since July 1, and prior to that worked as an administrative specialist for Sociology in East Hall for a total of 40 years. Be sure to stop in and wish her well in her well-deserved retirement!

Researchers at the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) at Iowa State University have created a new online tool to help Corn Belt farmers predict corn crop yields, harvested acreage, and total production, as reported in the High Plains Journal, July 13, 2019. The PSI-CARD Corn Yield Prediction Project provides county-level predictions for South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.

Water is one of our most valued resources–without it, there would be no life. Degradation of water quality and increased flooding in some areas in the state are often sourced from cities and farms that are managed without watershed management in mind. Water touches all disciplines, requiring many perspectives to solve complex water resource management problems, making it a top priority for many interdisciplinary research opportunities.
