Dr. WenWendong Zhang, assistant professor, hosted a press conference on Dec. 13, 2016, on the results of the 2016 Iowa Land Value Survey, which showed a 5.9% decline in per acre value since November, 2015. Land values have declined 17.5% since a historic high in 2013.

The Office of the Vice President for Research, in coordination with the Graduate College, offers a one-credit course each semester for graduate students who need to (or want to) complete training in the responsible conduct of research. Not only does this course satisfy both NSF, USDA-NIFA, and NIH training requirements for grants that students may be working on, but it also provides students with a solid foundation of knowledge regarding various topics.

Interdisciplinary Research Seed Grants are intended to support the initial stages of innovative, high-risk and high-reward projects that have an interdisciplinary focus and have strong potential for external (competitive) funding. These stages may include performing preliminary work and facilitating collaboration. It is expected that a competitive proposal for a sizable project will be submitted to an external funding agency within a year of the completion of the Research Seed Grant period.

This program funds larger interdisciplinary research groups for up to 3 years. Groups are expected to define an integrated interdisciplinary research effort distinguished by intellectual excellence and driven by a clear vision of fundamental advances, new discoveries, or technological developments having state, national, and global economic and societal impact. Further, the area of scholarship should likely be such that more than one agency may support the work.

The Presidential Interdisciplinary Research Seed Grant Program will offer awards to support the initial stages of new interdisciplinary research that has strong potential to attract external funding. Funding is provided by President Leath and a gift from Mary G. Miller to create an endowment honoring her mother, Mary N. Miller.

Tenure-eligible faculty, senior lecturers, and senior clinicians at all stages of their career can apply for the 2-year, $30,000-$50,000 per-year awards.
