A New Market Tax Credit and banking syndicate involving Iowa Community Capital (ICC) approved financing to upgrade operations for Simply Essentials LLC, an organic poultry processor located in Charles City, Iowa.
The record type ‘Sponsored Programs Unfunded Proposals’ has been added to the University Records Retention Schedule. The retention period for unfunded proposals is 5 fiscal years after the fiscal year in which the proposal was submitted. The PI or relevant administrative unit is responsible for retaining records for unfunded proposal submissions made by the PI. OSPA is responsible for retaining records for unfunded electronic submissions made by OSPA.

Eight economics students participated in this year’s Southern Agricultural Economics Association undergraduate quiz bowl competition. The event, held Feb. 2-6, 2018, in Jacksonville, Florida, was an excellent way for students to further their economics knowledge and network with professionals from across the country.

Amy Emmett, graduate studies coordinator, and her husband Joe are the proud parents of Oscar Lloyd Emmett, born Feb. 5 at 7:47 a.m. The youngest Emmett weighed 7 lb. 7 oz. and measured 20.5 in. long. All are doing well.

Colleen Kay Drackley Jolly, wife of emeritus professor Robert Jolly, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 10 at First Methodist Church in Ames. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, March 9 at the same location.

The department is saddened by the news that Emeritus Professor Marvin Julius, 95, passed away Mon., Jan. 22, 2018. Julius started work as a county extension director in 1963 and joined the economics department faculty in 1963. He retired from Iowa State in August, 1980.
Visitation will be on Wed., Jan.31, 12:00 to 1:00 pm with services to follow at 1:00 pm at Northcrest in Ames.
