Throughout June, the Department of Economics undergraduate office has been actively participating in Iowa State University’s New Student Orientation Program, welcoming and registering new students for Fall 2025 classes. We are excited to welcome approximately 110–115 Economics and Agricultural Business majors, either as first-year students or transfers. Another 35 students will join the Business Economics program through the College of Business’ orientation.
As in previous years, the majority of incoming students will major in Agricultural Business. Most are from Iowa, with others coming from Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Ohio, California, and Tennessee.
All new students will be part of ISU’s nationally recognized Learning Community (LC) program. This initiative offers small-group experiences within the larger university setting, providing students with opportunities for academic support, peer mentoring, and social interactions with faculty and their peers. Students in LCs consistently perform better academically and feel more connected to campus life, leading to higher retention and graduation rates.
Throughout orientation, we have introduced students to faculty and staff, the department’s academic programs, opportunities for program enrichment, and offered advice on how to successfully transition to ISU. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome this fall!
We invite all faculty and staff to join the department’s New Student Welcome Dinner on Sunday, August 24 at 5:00 PM in Gerdin Room 1148. We hope to see you there!
