Associate professor Lee Schulz was interviewed by KMTV (Omaha) for the story "Bird flu resurgence isn't just affecting farms and the Omaha Zoo, but also your pocket," which details how a resurgence in avian influenza (bird flu) could affect consumer prices.

Schulz told KMTV that prices can be impacted by less production or higher production costs, and currently, both are happening. "It’s roughly 50% higher cost of production today than it was back in 2020 so that's certainly impacting producers' profits and their ability to expand production."
