Swenson quoted in Newsweek

David SwensonDave Swenson, research scientist,  was quoted in a recent Newsweek article, “John Deere Workers Hit the Picket Lines as Company Expected to Report Record Profits.”

The Associated Press originally published the article, in which Swenson outlines how Deere’s strong sales may impact the company’s ability to meet the demands of striking workers. The article has been picked up by more than 60 media outlets.

  • Swenson was also interviewed by Ed Tibbetts, Quad City Times, about how the higher rate of retirements during the pandemic period might affect local economies.
  • Kathy Bolten, DM Business Record, about the new distribution center in Woodward, and what it would do to area labor costs, whether there would be sufficient labor, and why these operations always insist on anonymity.
  • And a Des Moines Register story about rising propane prices.
  • Josh Funk, AP, about UAW union members voting down John Deere’s second offer and whether there has yet to be a significant economic impact in those communities.
