Wendong Zhang, assistant professor, and Chad Hart, professor, have a new publication, "The impacts of interest rate changes on US Midwest farmland values," at Agricultural Finance Review. This is a joint work with MS graduate Albulena Basha, and is built on her master thesis.
This paper quantifies the effects of recent Federal Reserve interest rate changes, specifically recent hikes and cuts in the federal funds rate since 2015, on Midwest farmland values.
Zhang also made a zoom conference presentation at the Mini-Symposium on Developments on China’s Agricultural Trade Policy for the Australian Agricultural & Resource Economics Society (AARES) 2021 Annual Conference. This ongoing work is joint with Dermot Hayes, Amani Elobeid, and Xi He.
