Faculty Senate action and handbook updates

At its January 22 meeting, the Faculty Senate passed three items, two of which are Faculty Handbook changes.

• The Faculty Senate approved a new Action Plan Mediation Policy (Faculty Handbook 5.1.1.2.2) that, once incorporated into the Faculty Handbook, will provide a process for mediating action plans that result from unsatisfactory annual evaluations or Post Tenure Reviews. This will appear in the January 2019 update of the Handbook.
• The Faculty Handbook policy on “Harassing Behavior” (7.2.2.2.3) has been renamed “Bullying Behavior” to clearly distinguish it from harassment based on protected class. This will appear in the January 2019 update of the Handbook.
• The Faculty Senate passed a resolution against bullying and intimidation on campus which I have attached. This resolution is NOT policy but a declaration by faculty that "workplace and educational bullying have no place on our campus, are pernicious and will not be tolerated.”
