Leigh Tesfatsion, emeritus professor, has been elevated to the grade of Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Senior Member is the highest grade of the IEEE for which a member may apply. It requires extensive experience, and reflects professional accomplishment and maturity. Only 10% of IEEE 400,000 members have achieved this level.
Tesfatsion is also the principal investigator on a newly awarded two-year grant from the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC), with funding to start in July 2019. She and her two Co-PIs (Zhaoyu Wang, ECpE, ISU, and Subhonmesh Bose, ECpE, UI at Urbana-Champaign) will oversee a research project titled "Market and Control Mechanisms Enabling Flexible Service Provision by Grid-Edge Resources within End-to-End Power Systems". PSERC was created in 1996 as a National Science Foundation Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) to address key challenges in creating a modern electric energy infrastructure. The Center is currently self-sustaining and includes over 29 industries and 12 universities. https://pserc.wisc.edu/
