Lee Schulz, associate professor, and Alejandro Plastina, assistant professor, were interviewed for an Dec. 14th Pilot-Tribune article on farm markets.
“I think it’s incredible that we’re seeing the prices where they’re at today given the levels of production,” Schulz said to farmers and agriculture stakeholders at a Pro-Ag Outlook and Management meeting held by Iowa State Extension.
“Unless profitability changes soon, renters will have to shed acres,” Platina [sic] said, saying the projected challenges should stop short of becoming a “full-blown crisis.” He projects about one in five mid-sized commercial farms will experience issues with weak solvency and liquidity.
