Joseph McPhail ('08 M.S. economics) has won the 2018 Iowa State University Economics Department Outstanding Young Alumni Award. He received his award at the LAS Honors and Awards Ceremony Oct. 25 at the the Iowa State University Alumni Center.
After graduation, McPhail worked as a policy analyst and database manager for the Iowa Department of Economic Development. In 2010 he moved to Washington D.C. to work as a financial engineer in Credit Risk Analytics and Management for Fannie Mae for over a year. He went on to become Manager of Financial Advisory Services for the firm Ernst and Young for three years.
Currently, McPhail is a senior policy analyst for the Capital Markets Branch at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. He lives in Washington D.C. with his wife (and fellow ISU alum) Lihong McPhail and their two daughters.
