Iowa's 2.3% drop in GDP in 2021: Orazem

April 7, 2022

Peter OrazemPeter Orazem, university professor, was interviewed by Marcus McIntosh, KCCI, April 7 about how Iowa's real GDP dropped 2.3% in Q3 to Q4 last year, which looks like the worst of any state. But, the real GDP for the entire state jumped 6.4%, which is higher than the US growth rate of 5.7%.

"We actually had a pretty good year. When you look at some of the sectors, like manufacturing and finance that is important to Iowa. We actually performed above the national average in those sectors," Orazem said.

Orazem expects the agriculture sector to eventually bounce back — not before dealing with lingering issues like the avian flu.
