FY 2021 Bailey Research Career Development Award, Due Oct. 2, 2020

This award was established with a generous estate gift from Carl A. and Grace A. Bailey. The overall goal of this program is to foster research that is innovative (outside of an established research program) and not only increases knowledge but also has practical applications. It is expected that the Bailey award will allow faculty to devote time toward high-risk, high-impact research addressing emerging scientific, technical, and/or societal problems resulting in practical applications and, in appropriate disciplines, extramural funding.

 Eligibility: Any full-time tenured associate professors and professors may apply for this award. Each award will be given to an individual, but he/she can have collaborators on the project. The award may be used for faculty salary support, staff salary, graduate student and postdoc support, travel, equipment, hourly labor, and supplies. The Budget template is attached; also found in a link in the RFP.

 Deadline: Applicants should submit their proposal by Oct. 2 here: Bailey Faculty College Application Submission Portal (portal link also in RFP). (Note that each college will initially review the proposals and forward one to the VPR’s office. 

OVPR Deadline: Each college will select one proposal to submit to the Office of the VPR by Oct. 30.

 Award: One or two awards of $50,000 per year for two or three years will be made competitively. Awards will be announced January 15, 2021. Funding will start February 1.
