Description: Major League Baseball umpire Pat Hoberg Q&A Session
Location: 2050 Agronomy
Contact Person: Ronald Deiter
Hoberg has received much positive publicity for having called a perfect game (i.e. no missed calls behind the plate out of 129 calls) in game #2 of the 2022 World Series on Oct 29 in a game between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies. Presumably, this is the first time an umpire has called a perfect World Series game.
He is a native of Urbandale IA and attended Grandview College. He became a full-time MLB umpire in 2017. He is generally regarded as being among the best MLB umpires and only they get to umpire post-season games. Hoberg has umpired 3 divisional series, 1 wild card game/series, and 1 league championship series previously. The 2022 World Series was his first such assignment. He was also selected to be the home plate umpire for the first ‘Field of Dreams’ MLB game held in 2021 between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.
