Professor Chad Hart was interviewed by Iowa Public Radio for the story "The effects of bird flu ripple through one Iowa county, the hardest hit in the nation." The story focuses on Buena Vista County, which has been hit particularly hard by the recent highly pathenogenic avian influenza (bird flu) outbreak. Hart told IPR that “Not only do the farmers and ranchers get hurt by the loss of the flock, but the downstream workers in the processing plants get hurt as well because there’s less product to process.”
