Statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

The faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Economics are committed to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all their practices and activities.

Definitions

Diversity: Being open and welcoming to everyone interested in our educational and employment opportunities, regardless of personal or group characteristics and circumstances.

Equity: Ensuring fair treatment in access, opportunity, and advancement for everyone interested in our educational and employment opportunities.Inclusion: Striving to provide a work environment in which all individuals are treated respectfully, have access to opportunities and resources, and contribute to the department's success.

Belonging: Seeking to make everyone associated with our department feel welcomed,valued, and accepted as members of the department.

Our Mission

Achieve excellence in creating, disseminating, and applying economic knowledge by:Fostering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, extension, and outreach;Welcoming, mentoring, and retaining diverse faculty, staff, and students; and Encouraging differing perspectives and empowering anyone associated with our programs to have a voice in departmental decisions.

Our Commitment

We are committed to establishing a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging where each member of our community feels welcomed and valued. We believe that our commitment to creating a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment that welcomes respectful conversation and avoids ad-hominem criticism is the way to achieve excellence in all we do.
