Department hosts alumni awardees at reception

The Department of Economics hosted a brief reception for Alumni Association Award winners Dhamu Thamodaran and Steven Berger in 360 Heady on Friday from 10:15 to 11:00 am. They are two alumni whom CALS and the University will be honoring at the Alumni Association Awards Ceremony Oct. 25 at Scheman, as part of the homecoming festivities.

Dhamu Thamodaran (’83 PhD ag economics), executive vice president, chief strategy officer and chief commodity hedging officer for Smithfield Foods, Inc., received the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Henry A. Wallace Award. This citation honors a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumnus or friend who has achieved notable professional achievements nationally or internationally and brought distinction to themselves, the college, and the university through their significant contributions. Selection is made by the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Steve Berger (’86 ag business), a farmer near Wellman, was the recipient of the CALS Floyd Andre Award. This citation honors a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumnus who has made outstanding contributions to production agriculture, agricultural business or has had a significant impact on Iowa agriculture. Selection is made by the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Ben Zelle (’14 ag business, management information systems), a territory customer support manager for John Deere who won the ISU Alumni Association James A. Hopson Volunteer Service Award, was unable to attend the reception.
