Department alumni honored at awards ceremony

Three economics department alumni were honored at the Alumni Association Awards ceremony Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at Scheman.

Dan Robison, Dhamu ThamodaranCALS Dean Daniel Robison presented Dhamu Thamodaran (’83 PhD ag economics), executive vice president, chief strategy officer and chief commodity hedging officer for Smithfield Foods, Inc., with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Henry A. Wallace Award. This citation honors a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumnus or friend who has achieved notable professional achievements nationally or internationally and brought distinction to themselves, the college, and the university through their significant contributions. Selection is made by the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.


 

Dan Robison, Steve BergerSteve Berger (’86 ag business), a farmer near Wellman, was the recipient of the CALS Floyd Andre Award. This citation honors a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumnus who has made outstanding contributions to production agriculture, agricultural business or has had a significant impact on Iowa agriculture. Selection is made by the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Ben Zelle (’14 ag business, management information systems), a territory customer support manager for John Deere who won the ISU Alumni Association James A. Hopson Volunteer Service Award, did not attend.
