CELT Faculty development opportunities 2020-21

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching is offering three professional development programs designed to enhance teaching effectiveness, improve student learning, and promote the scholarship of teaching and learning. 

Application deadline for all programs: June 1, 2020

CELT Teaching and Learning Academy. Participants will attend monthly sessions that address course design, evidence-based teaching strategies, inclusive classroom practices, peer-review of teaching, and documentation of teaching effectiveness. The academy runs for the entire academic year.

Who is eligibleInstructors (tenured, tenure-eligible and term faculty, staff member with teaching appointment) who have between one and five years of teaching experience at Iowa State University.

Description: For instructors seeking a cohort experience

Time commitment: Nine, 3-hour sessions during the academic year

CELT Teaching Partners Program. The Teaching Partners Program supplements departmental mentoring by pairing two junior instructors (tenured, tenure-eligible and term faculty, staff member with teaching appointment) with a senior instructor from a different discipline who is a successful and experienced teacher. Partners discuss teaching and learning topics, complete classroom observations, and focus on documenting teaching effectiveness for continuous improvement efforts and teaching portfolios. The partnership runs for the entire academic year.

Who is eligible: Instructors (tenured, tenure-eligible and term faculty, staff member with teaching appointment) who will be in their second or third year at Iowa State University.

Time commitment: Three, 1-hour program sessions, attendance at two CELT programming events, regular meetings with senior partner

CELT Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Program. The scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) involves faculty framing and systematically investigating questions related to student learning, with the goal of improving their own classroom as well as advancing practice beyond it through peer-reviewed presentations and publications.

Who is eligible: Any faculty member at Iowa State University (tenured, tenure-eligible, term, staff member with teaching appointment) may apply to be a SoTL scholar.

Description: Faculty seeking to research, present, or publish on an aspect of their teaching. 

Time commitment: Twice a month meetings in Fall, 2020. Individual consultations available in Spring, 2021.
