Call for welcome volunteers

The Division of Student Affairs plans to provide five Welcome and Information Stations across campus the first two days of classes again this year. The goal of the stations is to welcome students to Iowa State University and answer students’ questions. It is important to engage with our students as they navigate campus the start of the fall semester.  We are requesting your assistance in recruiting volunteers to staff these stations.  Below is information that may be helpful to share in your messaging:

Three to five faculty/staff/student leaders will be assigned to each location per shift. The stations will be occupied 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. each day. Volunteers can sign up for multiple shifts if they are interested and available.

  • The question and answer sheets used during Destination Iowa State will be provided to all volunteers to use as reference. Bananas, apples, water, flyers about vaccination clinics, and flyers about campus resources will be available for distribution. We ask that volunteers use the gloves we will provide to distribute materials.
  • A 10 x 10 awning will mark each location except for the commuter lot bus shelter.  Chairs and a box with materials will be provided.
  • The shift schedule and volunteer sign-up sheet for both days can be found here

Please share the link with members of your team and encourage everyone to participate with Welcome Stations this year.  We would like to have all spots filled by 5:00 p.m. on August 13, 2021.  A confirmation email will be sent the week of August 16.

Thank you in advance for helping us with staffing these welcome stations as we kick-off the new academic year!
