Volunteer for the fair

The Iowa State University exhibit in the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fair has become a “don’t miss” destination for fairgoers. And that has been made possible by more than 140 proud and enthusiastic faculty and staff who volunteer.

This year, our exhibit theme at the fair, Thursday, August 10th through Sunday, August 20th, is “Forever True, Thanks to You!” with our partner, the Iowa State University Foundation.  The exhibit will include interactive displays that show how private funds impact our students’ learning adventure and faculty research that is helping improve our communities and the world. Also featured this year will be NEW waterless Cyclone tattoos, football posters, athletic trophies, daily drawings, and the University Book Store’s Iowa State merchandise.

If you or other faculty and staff members in your unit like to represent Iowa State with enthusiasm, we need your help greeting visitors, applying the NEW Cyclone temporary tattoos, and rolling and handing out Cyclone football posters.

We invite you to volunteer and ask that you forward this e-mail to those in your college, department or unit who could also be great volunteers.

There are two shifts per day: 8:45 AM until 3:00 PM and 2:45 PM until 9:00 PM. You can sign up to either roll and hand out posters or apply the temporary tattoos. As a volunteer, you will receive free fair admission and free parking on your volunteer day(s), a complimentary bottle of water, and a specially designed Iowa State T-shirt to wear during your shift.

To volunteer, go to http://isumarketing.wpengine.com/state-fair-exhibit-volunteer-sign-up/ Deadline is June 11th at midnight.  Volunteers who wish to work the same shift as colleagues need to sign up at the same time.  If you have questionscontact Disa Erickson at the University Marketing office by email: umarket2@iastate.edu, or by phone: 515-294-3969.

More than a half-million visitors will see our exhibit at the State Fair this year, giving us at least 500,000 opportunities to promote Iowa State University, communicate our value to the fine state of Iowa, and demonstrate the pride that we all share in the great university that is Iowa State.
