September 2008

This study utilizes Iowa 2006 Public Use Micro-sample data (PUMS) to investigate key economic, social, and workforce participation characteristics of Iowa's foreign born populations, primarily Hispanic - Latin Americans, Asians, Africans, and Europeans. The findings indicate that there are polar outcomes in skill and compensation levels depending on the occupations of the foreign born residents, their primary industry, and their overall education levels
