An evaluation of the economic and environmental consequences of herbicide tolerant varieties (HTC) of corn and processing tomatoes revealed changes in farm practices and production costs. The changes include lesser use of herbicides and a decrease in production cost. However, the HTC technology will not remove the use of chemicals in food production although it could lead to reduced chemical usage and to the implementation of an agricultural system that is more environmentally beneficial.
