This paper provides a systematic examination fothe older homeowner's willingness to use home equity as a source of financial leverage within the context of specific circumstances including emergencies, family needs, home improvements, and consumer expenses.  Using bivariate and multivariate techniques, it gives insight into the demand for home equity instruments and how demand varies according to specific needs and characteristics of the individual.
