Things I’ve done:

• Professionally – I’ve worked at Iowa State University since 1989, the University of Iowa from 1983 to 1989, and as a graduate student researcher at the University of South Dakota and The University of Iowa from 1980 to 1983. My very short resume.

• Study topics and research projects: Rural crime, maternal and child health, the health and well-being of the elderly, welfare and welfare reform, local and state government finance and tax policy, tax incidence, energy and the economy, economic development, farm policy, rural development, social and educational programming, economic impact studies, and project and program evaluation, to include cost effectiveness and benefit cost assessments of public works and policies.

• Veteran, U.S. Army

• Other jobs – farm hand, custom wheat harvester, truck driver, mechanic, office clerk, and policeman.

I am an endurance runner:

Completed a marathon (26.2 miles) in each of the 50 states

Completed over 115 marathons or ultra marathons (races farther than 26.2 miles)

Completed my first 100 mile foot race on 27 August 2006
