Graduaction Requirements for Economics Majors

Communications
Foreign Language

3 years high school or 1 year university level

May be waived for students who have Economics as a secondary major along with a primary major outside of the Liberal Arts and Sciences college.

Mathematics

Math 160 and Econ 207 or Math 165 and 166

Students who plan to pursue post-graduate work in economics or who want a more quantitative program should take the Math 165, 166 sequence

Computer Science
Computer Science 103 or equivalent
Statistics
Stat 226 and 326
Arts and Humanities/Social Sciences
  • 12 credits from the Arts and Humanities list
  • 9 credits from the Social Sciences list in at least 2 different social sciences; no econ credits can be used .

May be waived for students who have Economics as a secondary major along with a primary major outside fo the Liberal Arts and Sciences college.

International Perspectives/US Diversity

Courses used to satisfy the International Perspectives and US Diversity requirements may also be used to satisfy other areas of the curriculum.

Natural Science
8 credits from the Natural Sciences list.

May be waived for students who have Economics as a secondary major along with a primary major outside fo the Liberal Arts and Sciences college.

Economics
  • Econ 101, 102, 301, 302, 371, 492
  • 3 other Econ credits at the 300-level or above
  • 9 advanced Econ credits selected from Econ 400-489

Students must maintain a C average in all Econ courses taken

Electives
21-30 credits of electives. Students must take a sufficient number of elective credits to reach the minimum number of 120 total credits and the minimum number of 45 graded credits of 300+ level courses required to graduate from the Liberal Arts and Sciences College (with no more than 9 credits of 490, Independent Study, in a single discipline).
