The American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE) board is considering starting a mentoring program for midcareer minority economists for the academic year of 2021-2022.  

The goal of this program is to provide mentoring support to midcareer minority economists who in the next 2-3 years would like to apply for:

  • full professor 
  • a leadership position at an academic institution
  • a leadership position at a non-academic institution

Dr. Joydeep BhattacharyaA paper by Joydeep Bhattacharya, professor, has been published by the Journal of Mathematical Economics. "A rational-choice model of Covid-19 Transmission with endogenous quarantining and two-sided prevention," was coauthored by Shankha Chakraborty and Xiumei Yu. Yu was a pre-doc in the economics department last year.

The Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the 2021-22 cohort of the Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA). The Emerging Leaders Academy fosters and enhances leadership development of faculty and P&S staff currently serving in leadership roles, or those who aspire to such positions. ELA is offered annually to a select cohort of current and future institutional leaders. During the academic year, the ELA cohort participates in monthly leadership activities led by content experts and facilitators.

Dr. Wendong Zhang, Dr. Chad Hart, Albulena BashaWendong Zhang, assistant professor, and Chad Hart, professor, have a new publication, "The impacts of interest rate changes on US Midwest farmland values," at Agricultural Finance Review. This is a joint work with MS graduate Albulena Basha, and is built on her master thesis.
