Undergraduate Degree Program
Objectives: Create a learning and discovery environment in which students
develop critical thinking and problem solving skills inherent to the economics discipline, and
develop the ability to apply these skills to address relevant issues.
In particular, the Economics faculty seeks to:
1. Provide high quality service teaching to improve economic literacy among undergraduates at Iowa State University
2. Provide upper division undergraduate instruction that emphasizes critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills
3. Facilitate programs and provide incentives such that all undergraduate majors have an opportunity to participate in at least one international travel experience
4. Place graduating students in high value jobs
5. Place top scholars in high quality graduate and professional schools
6. Provide well-trained graduates to fulfill Iowa business needs
7. Provide excellent advising services to undergraduates
8. Retain top standing among U.S. agricultural business degree programs
9. Increase the number of undergraduate (LAS) economics majors
10. Participate in an on-going learning assessment program that focuses on the effectiveness of academic programs and the improvement of student learning and performance
