Associate or Assistant Professor of Economics

The Department of Economics seeks to fill one or more tenured or tenure-track positions in econometrics at the associate or assistant professor level. Preference for at least one of the positions will be given to associate professors with excellent research records. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong research program in econometrics, provide high quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise graduate student research.

The Department of Economics seeks candidates for the Bruce Rastetter Endowed Chair of Agricultural Entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will lead the newly created Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative to encourage and foster entrepreneurship across the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University.
The focus of the ISU agricultural entrepreneurship program is on teaching students how to think and behave in an entrepreneurial fashion in their own or existing businesses, agencies, or NGOs, as well as encourage them to become involved in entrepreneurial activities. The successful candidate will work closely with Iowa State faculty as well as the business community to build a highly visible agricultural and life science entrepreneurship program at Iowa State that will be considered the best in the nation.
The successful candidate will develop economics courses related to entrepreneurship, innovation, evolution of new business, entrepreneurial finance, firm and industry dynamics, local industrial characteristics and economic growth, and so on. Teaching will be primarily at the undergraduate level, but may include some graduate offerings. The candidate will use the resources and staff of the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative to develop educational materials, internships, service learning programs, seminars and short-courses that support entrepreneurship education across the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The candidate’s program will address the key issues of modern agribusiness firms in an innovative fashion. Topics addressed might include but are not limited to the process of entrepreneurship and new business creation in the food and agricultural sector; human capital and entrepreneurship; strategic decisions for entrepreneurial firms such as entry and growth, marketing and licensing, business organization and personnel management, and acquisitions and mergers or new-firm spin-offs; public policy related to entrepreneurship and economic growth.
Applicants should have a PhD or an advanced degree and national prominence in programs related to entrepreneurship. Demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills are essential. Rank as Professor or Adjunct Professor and salary are negotiable based on education and experience. Adjunct Professors are typically appointed for a five-year renewable term. The successful applicant will be a member of the Department of Economics; the tenure home, if applicable, could be elsewhere based on academic training and credentials. Associate Professor, Professor
- Q4 Energy Economics
The Department of Economics seeks candidates for the Cargill Chair in Energy Economics at the tenured associate professor or professor level. The successful candidate will lead Iowa State’s new Biobased Industry Center. As the Director of the Center, it is envisioned the Cargill Chair will bring together researchers from relevant areas of the University to address important issues relating to future energy markets as well as the biobased products industry and its competitors. Among other important issues, technological innovation and adoption in the chemical and energy sectors and government policy related to climate change and other environmental factors are critical. The successful candidate will work closely with Iowa State faculty and staff as well as industry, to build a highly visible research, technology transfer, and energy policy program.
The successful candidate will have a distinguished research record in energy economics and/or related fields. Priority will be given to candidates whose research emphasizes systems approaches to production and distribution and/or the structure and performance of nonrenewable and renewable energy and product markets.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach energy economics. The candidate will use the resources of the Center to publish research and develop educational materials, seminars and workshops that support Center activities across the university, the state of Iowa, and beyond.
The Director of the Biobased Industry Center will lead a nationally recognized program that attracts significant private and public funding. We expect that the Center will become a key partner in major national and global initiatives and a global leader in research related in the economics of the biobased industry and the energy and product markets in which it operates.
Applicants should have a PhD in economics, energy economics or related fields, a distinguished research record, experience in securing and managing grants and contracts, and demonstrated ability to conduct and manage interdisciplinary research. Experience that demonstrates leadership, organization, and communication skills is essential.
