The broad classifications are micro and macro economics. Within these classifications there are numerous specialties. As examples:

Industrial organization -- focuses on anti-trust laws and how they effect the actions of firms.Monetary economics -- focuses on how the actions of the Federal Reserve system affect such things as the general price level and total consumption.
