MANAGING RISKS AND PROFITS (MRP) is a 15 module interdisciplinary educational and applied research program for the nations grain producers, business persons, and educators. Designed as a self study tool or a curriculum for teaching a class, MRP focuses on the new global agricultural policies and changes in the global environment. MRP is intended to help the user understand contemporary risks associated with crop yields, grain prices, marketing practices, crop insurance choices, legal interpretations, financial considerations, cash flows, profit potentials, methods for managing the farm business, computer software applications, and applied research results. The Table of Contents that appears at the bottom of this page introduces the subject matter and authors. Mailing addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses are available for all authors. The first 14 modules have a tutorial focus. Module 15 is a manual for the MRP software. This software may be used by farmers or their agents to apply what has been learned to create a unique risk management and marketing plans for individual farm businesses. The MRP software, which is a Window based program, may be accessed via this CD ROM. Within the Table of Contents is a supplemental section containing supporting research focused articles. The important finding here is that one risk management plan does not fit the needs of all individuals. A survey of Web sites dealing with related subject matter is also included. If the user has his/her Web site server turned on, a site can be automatically accessed by clicking the mouse on the desired address. The AgRisk software program can be accessed via the CD ROM, and all figures appear in a PowerPoint directory. These figures may be used by educators or business persons to make presentations. Financial support for this project was provided by USDA Risk Management Agency and by a consortium of private sector benefactors. Click on "Go to Universities and Agribusinesses" to see a list of participating universities and financial supporters. A Questionnaire is included as a self test. Since MRP, like all other dynamic subject matter, is continually being revised, an internet site is in place at, http://www.econ.iastate.edu/agrisk/. New information and updates are being released via this site. For more information on any components of MRP, contact the co-directors of the MRP project or the producer of the CD ROM. To discuss the subject matter within a specific module, contact the author(s). |
