Assistant Professor, Associate Professor
- Q1: Agricultural Economics
The Department of Economics seeks to fill a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in agricultural economics at the assistant or associate professor level. The individual in this position is expected to develop a nationally recognized extension and research program in the economics of cooperatives and related organizations, with an emphasis on the agribusiness sector. The approximate split for this position is 50% extension, 35% research and 15% teaching. Areas of extension and research activities might include: the role of cooperatives in the evolving industrial organization of agricultural markets; vertical integration; innovation and product development; contracting; ownership, control rights and governance structures; organizational strategies; finance and the equity structure of cooperative firms; regulation and taxation of cooperative entities; risk and risk sharing in commodity markets.
Candidates must have a PhD in agricultural economics or economics or related field. Strong training in microeconomics and quantitative methods is required, with research interests in one or more of the following fields: industrial organization; business economics; agricultural marketing; agricultural finance. The position requires the ability to communicate orally and in writing and the skill to be an effective teacher when working in public forums or the classroom.
The successful candidate will be expected to: (a) carry out original research, related to the economics of cooperatives and related organizations including grant‐seeking efforts and publications in leading peer‐reviewed journals; (b) develop a focused outreach program centered on the provision of professional development programs for cooperative members, boards of directors and executives; (c) work closely with cooperatives in the state to address emerging issues through research and extension and (d) teach one undergraduate course per year. Opportunities will exist to direct graduate students’ research.
