- Kling named Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor
Catherine Kling, professor of economics and interim CARD director, was recently named a Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture and Life Sciences. Kling has been the head of CARD’s Resource and Environmental Policy Division since 1999, and has served as the interim director since 2011.Kling is well known among economists for her research in environmental policy, and is additionally recognized through receipt of the Bruce Gardner Memorial Prize for Applied Policy Analysis, Fellowship in the American Agricultural Economics Association, and was named in Who’s Who in Economics. Some of her most notable research areas include tradable pollution permits, carbon and water sequestration, and environmental amenities.
The title of Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor is given to those whose contributions to their field of study are recognized nationally or internationally.

The foundation will support research studies that address the following central question, “How do K-8 teachers use student performance data for instructional decisions and how do organizational and individual factors affect that use?”

- The William T. Grant Foundation - Scholars Program 7/8/2013
The William T. Grant Scholars Program supports promising early career, tenure track researchers (max. seven years from terminal degree) from diverse disciplines who have demonstrated success in conducting high-quality research and are seeking to further develop and broaden their expertise.
Candidates are nominated by their institutions and must submit five-year research plans that enhance understanding of youth settings and youth development or how research evidence is used in policy and practice that affect youth. ISU may nominate one scholar per college and the dean’s approval is required.

- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation - Healthy Eating Research 7/10/2013 Concept
Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity: The program supports research on environmental and policy strategies with strong potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among lower-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity.

- Howard Hughes Medical Institute 7/16/2013
New awards for science education: awards will enable professors to develop and implement science education activities. To be eligible, applicant must be a PI on one or more active, national peer-reviewed research award of at least three-year duration (i.e. NIH, NSF, American Cancer Society) and must have undergraduate teaching responsibilities.

- William T. Grant Foundation - Research Grants 8/1/2013 Letter of Intent
The William T. Grant Foundation accepts letters of intent in its research focus areas. 1) Social Settings—how youth settings work, how they affect youth development, and how they can be improved and 2) Use of Research Evidence.

- Cottrell Scholar Award 8/1/2013
Awards for tenure-track faculty members whose primary appointment is in a bachelor’s - and Ph.D.-granting department of astronomy, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or physics. Eligibility for this cycle is limited to faculty members who started their first tenure-track position anytime in calendar year 2010. Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and high prospects for becoming a national leader in their field of research. Proposals consist of both educational and research plans.

- Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation - Postdoctoral Program in Environmental Chemistry 8/14/2013
Applications are accepted from principal investigators with well-established research efforts in environmental science or engineering. These research activities need not be located in traditional departments in the chemical sciences, and collaboration across departments and institutions is encouraged. Applications most likely to be of interest should describe innovative fundamental research in the chemical sciences or engineering related to the environment. (e.g. the climate, the atmosphere, aquatic or marine settings, toxicology, soil or groundwater.) Also of interest are chemistry-related energy research (renewable sources, sequestration, etc.), and new or green approaches to chemical synthesis and processing, with a clearly stated relation to the environment.
