  • PhD student McFadden awarded Caine Bogle Family Graduate Fellowship

Jonathan McFadden is a third year PhD student in the Department of Economics at Iowa State University, and is the recent recipient of the Caine Bogle Family Graduate Fellowship. McFadden will receive $1,000 to partially fund his graduate studies and current research in 2013.

The Caine Bogle Family Graduate Fellowship is set up through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and is awarded to students demonstrating both academic and leadership qualities.

The focus of McFadden’s research has been on agricultural and environmental economics. He has worked with Professor Wallace Huffman on consumer willingness to pay for certain food items, determining those results through the use of experimental economics. Additionally, his work with John Miranowski has highlighted land allocation and the development of cellulosic biofuels.

“It is a real pleasure working with a clever, creative, and hard-working research assistant like Jonathan, who is willing to push the frontiers of knowledge and address problems in creative new ways with implications for important policy issues,” said Huffman and Miranowski.

“It was an honor to be selected for this fellowship,” said McFadden. "I was glad to have the opportunity to represent our department's grad students to CALS in this important area of economics."
