    Join EGSA tonight for some relaxation, drinks and food at Welch Avenue Station (207 Welch Avenue), 5 PM.

  • EGSA open house with John Dear Representative

    When: October 15, Openhouse 11:30-1:00, with a presentation at 12:00.

    What: Come meet with a representative from John Deere to discuss and hear about job opportunities at the company, including summer internships. Bring a resume if interested in applying. Pizza will be provided.

    Who is invited: Anyone from the economics department, as well as the statistics and other quantitative fields Will probably be of special interest to master's students.

  • Jensen talks school nutrition on Talk of Iowa/IPR

    ISU professor of economics Helen Jensen was interviewed on Iowa Public Radio’s Talk of Iowa on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, about the implementation of new school lunch and breakfast policies. Jensen has long focused her research on food and nutrition policies, which have become a national hot topic as the government looks to offer healthier foods to children at school.   • New display features Heady’s legacy

    A new display in the Department of Economics details the life of Earl Heady, famed agricultural economist and founder of CARD. It includes quotes and perspectives from colleagues, photos, and an additional section detailing the contributions of his wife Marian Heady, who recently passed away. Find the display on the second floor of Heady Hall outside of the administrative offices.

  • Weekly Media Connections for the Department of Economics

    Chad Hart spoke with the Iowa State Daily on food pricing, and the Des Moines Register on the current stock of grain. He also spoke with the following:

    • Corn and Soy Digest on grain markets
    • Successful Farmer on grain quality and biofuel policy/marketing
    • IPR/River to River on the drought and green pricing

    Dave Swenson spoke with Dick Lehman, WHO radio, and Jennifer Jacobs, DMR, on this morning's job and unemployment numbers. He also spoke with Jason Clayworth, DMR, on the impact of the "fiscal cliff" on the economy, and whether there were aspects that particularly affected Iowa.
