Graduate Student Announcements

  • IFREE's 18th Visiting Graduate Student Workshop in Experimental Economics

This coming January the International Foundation of Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE) will sponsor its 18th Visiting Graduate Student Workshop on Experimental Economics at Chapman University in (warm) Orange, CA. The seminar will open with a reception on the evening of Sunday, January 6 and run through Thursday, January 10, 2013.

The purpose of the workshop in economics for PhD students is to introduce and explore the laboratory method of inquiry. The workshop is free to all participants, but students must provide their own transportation to and from the workshop. Application procedures can be found at: http://chapman.edu/research-and-institutions/economic-science-institute/.... All applications and letters of recommendation received by September 28, 2012 will be considered. Since this is a competitive program and space is quite limited, we will only be accepting one application per department. The responses to the essay prompts in the application matter.

Participants must be able to stay for the duration of the workshop, arriving in time for the opening reception at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 6. Friday, January 11 is a day for travel. Local housing arrangements are covered by a generous grant from IFREE. Each day students will participate in an experiment for *cash*. Thus, as part of their learning experience, participants must earn money to help recover their travel expenses. (Please note that all international students must receive approval from their university’s international student office in order to receive payments. If the student is not approved, we will be unable to pay the student earnings from the experiments.) Participants will be required to read a set of articles prior to arrival in preparation for two group discussions during the week. A tentative  schedule and a list of readings can be found on the website provided above.
