  • Iowa State Fair exhibit volunteers needed

    From August 11-21, Iowa State volunteers are needed to help roll and hand out more than 30,000 football posters to Iowa State fans and help apply over 35,000 temporary Iowa State tattoos to visitors of the Iowa State Fair. There are two shifts per day, 8:45 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. where two volunteers roll and hand out posters and two volunteers apply tattoos each shift. Iowa State volunteers receive free fair admission, free parking in the fair’s big north lots, a complimentary bottle of water and a free special Iowa State t-shirt designed specifically for volunteers.

    Faculty and staff who are interested in volunteering should contact Katie Belvin in the University Marketing office, !mrktgstd@mail.iastate.edu or 294-3969 by Wednesday, June 15.

  • Newpaper recycling available in Heady Hall

    Newspapers are one of the many materials recycled on campus. Bins are conveniently located in many areas, including the first-floor entryway of Heady Hall, near the Daily distribution box.

  • CARD's Clarke receives the 2011 ACE Publishing Award of Excellence

    Sandy Clarke was named the 2011 recipient of the ACE Publishing Award of Excellence. The Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) is an international association of communicators, educators, and information technologists working in the areas of agriculture, natural resources, and life and human sciences. The Publishing Award of Excellence recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in publishing as well as leadership and involvement in ACE.

  • Teaching Excellence awarded to four Department of Economics grad students

    Four Department of Economics graduate students received the Teaching Excellence award for 2011. The recipeints are (pictured left to right) Kenneth Liao, Ryan Goodrich, Alicia Rosburg, and Wenwen Xi (not pictured).


    The purpose of the award is to recognize and encourage outstanding achievement by graduate students in teaching, and up to 10% of the graduate students involved in teaching are recognized each year. Recipients will also be recognized at the time of their graduation – each will be given an honor cord, cited in the ISU Commencement Program and recognized during the ceremony; the award is also noted on the student's transcript.

  • Ron Deiter was interviewed by Codi Vallery-Mills of The Cattle Business Weekly regarding the career potential available to students who obtain an agribusiness degree.

  • Bruce Babcock spoke with Jim Offner of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier about elimination of the ethanol subsidy and estimated job impacts. Anna Petherick, a writer with a UK academic journal called Good Nature, called about a recent CARD Policy Brief regarding ethanol subsidies and corn prices. Peter Green, a reporter with Bloomberg News, interviewed Babcock about the effect that feeding China's growing middle class will have on the U.S., especially on producing more water-thirsty crops.

  • Chad Hart, assistant professor of economics and grain markets specialist, spoke with John Pocock of Corn and Soybean Digest about crop plantings and markets. He talked to Frank Zaworski, ICIS, about crop plantings and fertilizer applications. And he was interviewed by Bruce Gellerman of the Living on Earth radio program about crop and food prices.

  • Dave Swenson spoke with Lynn Hicks, executive business editor of The Des Moines Register, regarding a new U.S. News & World Report ranking showing Des Moines first among the 10 cities with the highest real incomes.

    The Extension Educator will provide leadership and overall coordination to the Purdue Extension's county educational program.   • Economic Development Specialist City of Appleton, Wisconsin

    The City of Appleton is seeking a professional for the position of Economic Development Specialist. This position is responsible for conducting and administering planning, economic development, and redevelopment programs and projects. The work involves managing the City's industrial parks, coordinating and planning redevelopment projects, participating in land acquisition and business relocation, updating comprehensive plans and preparing related records and reports. The incumbent will also perform the duties of liaison between neighborhood residents, business owners, multiple City departments, non-profit organizations and the private sector. A bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Economic Development, or related field, three to five years urban planning with economic development experience or equivalent combination of experience and training is required. The starting salary range is $57,450-$68,931, plus an excellent fringe benefit package. Regular attendance is required.
